By L&G’s own figures, its Galápagos stake equals about 38% of the US$656 million issue. L&G is also one of the few holders of debt-conversion notes to name its own positions; the other buyers of these notes are undisclosed in the sources found.
What it has said
L&G says that for Belize, Credit Suisse “rallied a group of investors, including L&G”, that it “acted as the cornerstone investor … with a $250m investment for the Galapagos islands”, and that it has invested “over $465 million in these transactions globally” [MS]. For the Spekboom bond it described its money as “UK pension capital” and called the deal its second outcome bond, after the clean cooking bond [MS].
Open questions
Whether the conversion stakes sit in client funds or on L&G’s own annuity balance sheet is not stated. Assets under management of about £1.1 trillion are reported and not yet sourced [TBV].

Provenance
Drafted on 15 October 2026 from the research brief Nature performance bond investors.md, compiled the same day from five research strands: outcome-linked and sustainability-linked bonds, environmental impact bonds, debt-for-nature conversions, insurers and reinsurers, and the largest asset managers with their regulatory context. Claim tags follow the brief, which never upgraded a claim without a source and lowered to [MS] any claim a research note had graded [IC] on the strength of a company’s own release. The headquarters country in based_in comes from general knowledge unless a deal record states it, and is to be confirmed. The brief’s search had limits: fund holdings filings, municipal bond disclosures and the Oxford INDIGO and Brookings impact bond databases were not searched, so a deal missing from this page may exist.
