A Regenerative Development District is the area inside which Benjamin Life places a Bioregional Development Organization, working “inside a Regenerative Development District via a Bioregional Development Plan.”

Extended definition

The phrase appears once in The Missing Middle of Bioregional Development (Part II, October 2026). Life does not define it, say who designates it, or give it a legal, tax or regulatory regime of its own. The name reads as a counterpart to the US Economic Development District, the federal designation that nearly four hundred Regional Development Organizations hold, and that designation is a planning and funding status built around a regional strategy. That reading is the wiki’s inference. Life does not state it.

In the founding suite, the area a plan covers is the BioRegion as its BioRegion Definition sets it. Where a place wants a district with standing in law, the legal content is the place’s own construction and its jurisdiction’s to grant.

Contrast with adjacent terms

Special Economic Zone. A designated area under its own customs, tax or regulatory regime. Life attaches no such regime to the Regenerative Development District, and the two should not be read as equivalents.

Economic Development District. The US federal designation for a multi-county region with an approved Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy. Its boundaries are administrative. Life requires bioregional boundaries.
