A long-term, cross-sector coalition of the organizations and communities in a landscape, working to a shared vision for its regeneration; the body that carries out integrated landscape management.

Extended definition

Landscape partnerships (LPs) take many forms. Many begin as informal dialogue platforms where stakeholders share concerns and learn about the landscape; mature partnerships adopt written agreements, defined roles and, in some cases, legal status. The convener may be a local NGO, a university, a land management authority, a local government, a farmer organization or a company, and members can include distant parties with a legitimate interest, such as buyers who source from the landscape. The 1000 Landscapes guide asks each partnership to produce an agreement covering its values, governance, member roles, decision-making, conflict resolution and information-sharing, and to review its own capacity and performance over time.

The field reports two recurring weaknesses. Most partnerships lack long-term funding for coordination and facilitation, and most lack formal legal standing, which limits their access to finance and to public programs (Scherr et al. 2026).

  • BioHub: both convene the actors whose activity shapes a place. A landscape partnership’s defining products are a shared vision, an action plan and an investment portfolio. The BioHub, as this wiki specifies it, also publishes a coordination surface and tenders verified services to buyers. An existing landscape partnership can serve as the convening core of a BioHub, and a BioHub is a landscape partnership in the field’s terms (the wiki’s reading).
  • Multi-stakeholder platform: a general term for any forum of diverse stakeholders. A landscape partnership is one bound to a landscape and a long-term regeneration vision.
