A BioStack is the nested structure through which bioregional coordination takes hold. Four geographic scales sit inside a coordination architecture that lets those scales function together as an economy.

- BioPlace: The smallest scale of the stack, where humans meet a specific piece of land directly and shape their activity to its rhythms.
- BioHub: The scale at which place-based coordination makes a BioRegion function as a coherent unit.
- BioRegion: An area large enough to hold regenerative economic activity that, taken together, provides a service the surrounding society values.
- BioConomy: The coordination architecture that gives the three scales the institutional shape of an economy.
The three geographic scales nest inside one another. The fourth term is architectural. Without it the scales are a set of projects; with it they operate as retention economics.
