The Valley of Grace BioHub operates in the Riviersonderend corridor of the Overberg region, in the Mediterranean Forests, Woodlands and Scrub biome of the Afrotropic realm (at12). Coordinator: Michael Haupt. Directory entry: biohubs.bioconomy.earth/afrotropic/at12-vog.
What the BioHub offers peers
Water yield service through catchment restoration in the Riviersonderend corridor. Biodiversity monitoring via camera traps and iNaturalist surveys across roughly 10,000 hectares. A Leopard Corridor Destination Management Plan produced through Gaussian Splatting and glTF techniques. The Genadendal Saturday Market and a producer cooperative for food systems. Coordination-and-learning hub curriculum delivery on bioregional economics.
What the BioHub seeks
Alignment with the Conservation Alpha verification methodology for bond program participation. Landowner stewardship agreements for restoration authorization. Peer-BioHub coordination on water retention landscape methodology. Philanthropic and outcomes-based funders interested in commons-based capital deployment. Research partners for a bioprecipitation citizen-science initiative.
Instruments the BioHub is aligning to
The Cape Water Performance-Based Bond (FR31PB), a JSE-listed ZAR 2.5-billion instrument issued by FirstRand Bank in April 2026. The ZA-FiCom three-phase financial commons architecture, currently in Phase 1.
Where the coordination surface points
Two natural coordination paths surface from these offers and seeks. Alignment with the FR31PB bond program places this BioHub inside the same instrument tranche as any peer BioHub tendering into the Cape Water bond, and the Overberg BioRegion coordination surface holds the regional pattern for submission. The bioprecipitation research thread connects to any peer working the same citizen-science question in a comparable strategic water source area.

Provenance
Entry created 4 September 2026 as the first BioHub listed in the network folder. Content drawn from the Valley of Grace BioHub’s coordination surface, now at https://biohubs.bioconomy.earth/afrotropic/at12-vog/coordination-surface, as published on the same date. The BioHub coordinator is invited to open a pull request when the coordination surface changes and this entry needs to be refreshed.
Revised 28 September 2026. Addresses updated to the BioHubs directory at biohubs.bioconomy.earth, and the code now given as RESOLVE realm and biome, where all BioHubs are now registered.
