Tomas Björkman is a Swedish social entrepreneur and author. He founded the investment bank IBP Fondkommission in 1990 and left finance in 2006 [IC]. In 2008 he established the Ekskäret Foundation, and in 2016 he co-founded the research institute Perspectiva in London with Jonathan Rowson [IC]. He has been a member of the Club of Rome since 2014, and is a co-funder and the chair of the Inner Development Goals Foundation [IC].
Contribution
With Lene Rachel Andersen, Björkman produced The Nordic Secret (2017), which argues that Bildung, spread through the Nordic folk high schools, carried the Nordic countries into modern democracy, and which links Bildung to Robert Kegan’s orders of consciousness. Some records list him as the book’s editor. The Market Myth (2016) argues that the market is a social construction. The World We Create (2019) develops his account of how societies and their members develop together. Through Ekskäret and the Inner Development Goals, he has carried the concern with inner development into the sustainable development field.
