The projected share of a BioHub’s income from grants against the share from contracted or earned payments, period by period over twenty years, with targets: the measure of movement from needy to needed.
Extended definition
The trajectory is section F of the Twenty-Year Value Ledger. For each five-year period it projects how much of the BioHub’s income arrives as grants and how much as payments for contracted services or checked outcomes, with the assumptions behind each figure and targets for years ten and twenty. A falling grant share over time is the measurable form of the move from needy to needed.
The trajectory is read alongside the 100-unit trail, which follows each 100 units of money committed to the place and asks whether the place is better able to raise the next 100. An outside engagement can be judged partly by whether it moves the place along the trajectory.
Contrast with adjacent terms
Needed versus needy names the two postures. The needed trajectory measures the movement between them over time. Grants do not disappear from it: enabling money for coordination and monitoring may remain grant-funded throughout.
