Bioregioning Earth complements BioHubs.earth on the empirical layer. Where BioHubs.earth focuses on the physical-infrastructure form (farms, campuses, community centers) and reports 152 initiatives internationally, Bioregioning Earth casts a wider organizational net across four actor types (Bioregional Organizer, Funder, Learning Network, Support Provider) and treats bioregioning as a broader movement. The two directories overlap and cross-reference, and reading them together gives the fullest available picture of the international bioregional field.
Editorial approach
The site is a filterable directory with detailed narrative profiles. Users can search by location, organization type, and more than 60 tags. Map and gallery views sit alongside individual case studies. The framing centers Indigenous leadership, place-based regeneration, and governance models that operate within ecological limits.
Where its coverage is strongest
Breadth of organizational form. Where the BioHub literature focuses on the physical-infrastructure-centered coordination node, Bioregioning Earth documents the wider ecology around it: funders, learning networks, support providers, and organizers who are working on bioregional questions without necessarily building a BioHub. This is the field context a BioHub sits inside.
Ten thematic areas. The site’s organization by theme (Ecosystem Regeneration, Agro-Bioeconomy, Community Governance, Legal Stewardship, Mapping and Indicators, Alternative Finance, and others) offers a complementary taxonomy to the BioConomy’s own frameworks. Reading them side by side surfaces where the two vocabularies converge and where they diverge.
Case study depth. Each profile is substantive and place-specific enough to be useful as reference material for a BioConomy research brief.
Traffic between the wikis
The BioConomy corpus has not yet drawn on Bioregioning Earth material directly.
