Software, guidance platforms and services that support work at the BioRegion scale: the catchments, landscapes and ecoregions within which BioHubs coordinate and outcome-based finance is designed.
Overview
BioRegion-scale work has its own tooling needs. A catchment program or landscape partnership has to model hydrology across many properties, cost portfolios of interventions over decades, satisfy funders’ due diligence and keep a governing body of many parties together. The tools that serve this work range from open hydrological models to full program-design methods published by conservation organizations and development finance institutions. Most were built for professional teams, so each entry notes what a BioHub cohort can take from it and what it would need partners for.
Currently listed
- Resilient Watersheds Toolbox (resilientwatershedstoolbox.org). The Nature Conservancy’s open guide to designing, financing and running Watershed Investment Programs and water funds, with a four-phase project cycle, a directory of 45 modeling tools and 41 case studies.
- Catchment Dam and Initiative Scan (listed under AI Tools). Deep research instructions that start from a table of the catchment’s dams and find the water initiatives around them.
Criteria for inclusion
A tool earns a page here when a BioRegion-scale team can use it now, when its method or data are open to read, and when its terms leave room for community-led programs as well as institutional ones. Tools that fail one or more of these tests can still be listed, with the gap noted on the entry.
