London Bullion Market Association (2023). Spotlight on the South African Market, chapter 3, Mining. London: LBMA.
The chapter records South African gold output peaking at about 1,000 tonnes around 1970, when the country supplied more than 70 percent of world production, and falling to 93 tonnes in 2022. The wiki uses it in South Africa on the Curve as the dated record of the clearest S-curve in the South African economy. Compilations based on USGS data give a slightly lower peak, 995 tonnes and about two-thirds of world supply.
