Fairhead, J., Leach, M. and Scoones, I. (2012). “Green Grabbing: a new appropriation of nature?” Journal of Peasant Studies 39(2): 237–261.

The introduction to a Journal of Peasant Studies special issue that named green grabbing: “the appropriation of land and resources for environmental ends.” The authors list conservation, carbon sequestration, biofuels, ecosystem services, ecotourism and offsets among its agendas, and include “the restructuring of rules and authority in the access, use and management of resources” within appropriation. The wiki takes that clause as the reason governance exclusion from a catchment facility can count as appropriation without any change in land title.
