Ahmed’s central finding, published in Foresight (2025, 27(2)): all five foundational sectors of civilization’s production system are simultaneously entering phase transition. This is not a crisis in one sector creating ripple effects in others. It is the simultaneous destabilization of the entire material foundation on which the current organizing system rests.
The framework corrects Arbib and Seba’s technology disruption analysis for its colonial blind spots and integrates it with Gunderson and Holling’s adaptive cycle theory. Multiple global crises are, in this reading, symptoms of the final stages of industrial civilization’s life-cycle.
For the Three Futures framework, Ahmed’s work provides the peer-reviewed empirical grounding for the Termination trajectory: the diagnosis of what happens if the current system does not reorganize at a lower level of complexity.
